1. Stay Clear
Keep everyone away from the tree, and treat any downed wire as live. Do not try to cut a tree that is resting on a structure, a vehicle or another tree – the tension in it is what hurts people.

Storm damage restoration
Wondering if your property will ever look the same again? With our prompt and reliable service, it definitely will. Call the professionals at Big Timber and let us assess your South Jersey storm damage situation and lay out a restoration plan.
That plan covers everything from getting the immediate hazard off your home to the last wheelbarrow of chips: hazardous removal, pruning of what can be saved, stump grinding where a tree came out by the roots, and a lot that is level and clean when we leave.
If a tree has come down
Most storm injuries happen after the wind stops, when someone tries to deal with a downed tree themselves. Here is how to keep your family safe until our crew arrives.
Keep everyone away from the tree, and treat any downed wire as live. Do not try to cut a tree that is resting on a structure, a vehicle or another tree – the tension in it is what hurts people.
Tell us what came down and what it is touching. A crew is dispatched right away; if power lines are involved we coordinate with the utility so the site is safe before we start.
We stabilize what is hanging, take the tree off the house or driveway in controlled sections, photograph the damage for your insurer and haul everything away.

Nor’easters, thunderstorms, ice
South Jersey weather does not pick a season. Summer thunderstorms snap limbs and drop whole crowns, nor’easters and hurricane remnants uproot saturated trees, and winter ice loads branches until they split at the trunk. Our crews have cleared all of it, in every kind of tight spot.
Not every damaged tree has to go. Where the structure is sound we prune back to good wood – see our tree trimming service – and only recommend a full removal when the tree cannot be made safe.

After the emergency
A healthy tree that falls in a storm is usually covered by your homeowner’s policy, and adjusters want to see the damage before it is cleaned up. We photograph the scene before we touch it, itemize the work on the invoice and provide the documentation your insurer asks for, so the claim moves as fast as the cleanup did.
Then we finish the job properly: broken limbs still in the canopy are pruned out so they do not fall next week, the root plate of an uprooted tree is ground flush, and every branch, log and chip is hauled off unless you would like firewood or mulch left behind.
We work directly with adjusters and provide the documentation to support your storm-damage claim.
